Hotel Burnham Employees Work to Eradicate Pediatric Cancer

Hotel Burnham is a proud partner of Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation of Chicago. Bear Necessities' mission is to eliminate pediatric cancer and to provide hope and support to those who are touched by it.

Founded in 1992 by Kathleen A. Casey, the foundation is named in memory of her eight-year-old son, Barrett "Bear" Krupa, who died after a courageous five-and-a-half year battle with Wilms Tumor, a pediatric cancer. The foundation's Small Miracles Program helps brighten the lives of pediatric cancer patients by granting them special requests, such as tickets to a sporting event or taking a ride in a limousine. Bear Necessities also provides family support services as well as funding for pediatric cancer research.

Employees of Hotel Burnham volunteer their time to help Bear Necessities in a variety of ways. Some have assisted

at Bear Necessities fundraisers, while others have helped deliver supplies to patients at local hospitals. Recently, a group of Burnham volunteers served food to patients and their families at a Cinco de Mayo party.

In 2008, Hotel Burnham employees sported pins that said "Ask Me Why I Wear the Bear," encouraging guests and members of the public to ask about Bear Necessities. Hotel employees collected over $500 in donations to the foundation through this effort.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with Bear Necessities long into the future and hope to positively impact the lives of children with pediatric cancer.
