Community Service Hotel Burnham is proud to partner with Carter Elementary School, which houses grades pre-K through 8. Located at 57th Street and South Michigan Avenue on Chicago's south side, the student body at Carter is comprised of mostly underprivileged students.
Employees of Hotel Burnham volunteer their time to help out the children and teachers of Carter at least once a month. Activities in the past have included reading to the younger children, tutoring older children in preparation for the city proficiency exam, delivering candy on Halloween, and singing carols around the holidays.
March 2007 was dedicated to collecting books for the children and faculty of Carter. With contributions from guests, clients and employees, Kimpton Hotels Chicago was able to increase each classroom library at Carter by 30%. The children also enjoyed a visit from the White Sox mascot, South Paw, as the Story Bus delivered boxes and boxes of new books.
We look forward to continuing our partnership with Carter Elementary School long into the future with additional visits and new activities.
