I also like the Hotel Burnham, right in the center of the Loop. Designed by D. H. Burnham, who famously said, "Make no little plans," a charming hotel with reasonable prices and good, personalized service. CitySearch.com, February 2002
Humphrey Bogart would feel right at home at this architecturally interesting Loop hotel. Travel & Leisure, November 2001
Style doesn't have to come at a price. In 21 cities across the nation, we found 25 hotels where sophisticated design and great value go hand-in-hand. Hotel Burnham: In 1895, the steel-and-glass Reliance Building designed by Chicago architect Daniel Burnham, anticipated the modern skyscraper. Later towers overshadowed it - until 1999, when the partnership of McCaffery Interests, E. Barry Mansur Co., and Granite development, invested $27.5 Million. Vivid mosaic floors, red marble walls, and filigreed elevator grills replicate the original State Street entrance to the 25-story tower. Upstairs, antique mahogany doors open onto indigo-and-gold guest rooms, where half-canopy beds and chaise lounges seduce business and leisure travelers alike. WestWays, May/June 2001 Hats off to historic hotels
Some of Chicago's trendiest hotels are in historic buildings. San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group operates the hippest: the Hotel Burnham, 1 West Washington, in the 1894 Reliance Building has cast iron elevators and original wooden doors with opaque windows.
